Cathy Segal-Garcia

Her repertoire includes original compositions and modern interpretations of standards and jazz musicians’ compositions.  Critical Jazz says, “The vibe of artistic integrity coupled with honest emotion for a captivating experience.”  Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times added, “Segal-Garcia’s most compelling quality is a warm, dark sound, luxurious enough to wrap a song in an envelope of lush timbres.”

Segal-Garcia has been a tireless supporter and producer of the L.A. jazz scene for years.  Recognized for such by musicians, singers, jazz fans, students of jazz singing and organizations such as L.A. Jazz Scene, lajazz.com, CA Jazz Foundation, Jazzvocalalliance.com, Great American Songbook Preservation Society, CA Lawyers for The Arts, and named a “Jazz Living Legend” in L.A.

With two CD's under his own name, "Wings of Light" and "Amigos del Corazon" , Jamie is also a very busy performer and composer, both in the States and abroad. His music is flavored by many styles from jazz and blues to pop and funk. Jamie formed the Acoustic Jazz Quartet, an L.A. based jazz band that features Jamie's compositions, with a their first Naxos Jazz release distributed worldwide in April, '99, and a second Acoustic Jazz Quartet "Organic" released in 2001.

He has three videos published, two instructional videos out with Starlicks, "Acoustic Fingerpicking" and "Acoustic Guitar Soloing," and one concert video from the "Open Strings" Festival from Osnabrock, Germany, '98, distributed in the states by Mel Bay. Known for his unique guitar style and his compositions, Jamie is visiting his old stomping grounds in L.A from Seattle, where he moved back to several years ago…to make a special solo album of his originals, which are truly beautiful!

Patrick ‘Putter’ Smith

Patrick ‘Putter’ Smith, now 80, has a resume as a jazz bassist going back as far as the '50s, and has amassed a huge list of recording and performance credits alongside Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Duke Ellington, Billy Eckstine, Lee Konitz, Art Farmer, Erroll Garner, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper, Bob Brookmeyer, Diane Schuur, Ray Charles, Burt Bacharach, Sonny and Cher, the Beach Boys, the Righteous Brothers, and many more.  His listening, harmonic sense, and beautiful melodic sense is always present.

In his later career, he also became a respected teacher of upright bass at the Musicians’ Institute in Los Angeles. Smith is also known outside the music world for his rare acting role in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever, in which he played an affable hitman, Mr. Kidd.   A bass player with no acting experience at all, director Guy Hamilton was intrigued by Putter’s look after watching him playing in an LA jazz club. Out of the blue he was called to audition and told he wouldn’t be needing his bass. He auditioned, and the offer was made!  History was made!
