Friday Night Live Music: Patrick ‘Putter’ Smith @ The Harmony Room, January 13

We welcome you and your friends to join us for the first Harmony Room concert of the new year! Accomplished bassist, Patrick ‘Putter’ Smith returns to the Harmony Room for an evening of classic jazz music on Friday, January 13 at 8PM.

Patrick ‘Putter’ Smith, now 80, has a resume as a jazz bassist going back as far as the '50s, and has amassed a huge list of recording and performance credits alongside Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Duke Ellington, Billy Eckstine, Lee Konitz, Art Farmer, Erroll Garner, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper, Bob Brookmeyer, Diane Schuur, Ray Charles, Burt Bacharach, Sonny and Cher, the Beach Boys, the Righteous Brothers, and many more.  His listening, harmonic sense, and beautiful melodic sense is always present.

In his later career, he also became a respected teacher of upright bass at the Musicians’ Institute in Los Angeles. Smith is also known outside the music world for his rare acting role in the 1971 James Bond movie, Diamonds Are Forever, in which he played an affable hitman, Mr. Kidd. A bass player with no acting experience at all, director Guy Hamilton was intrigued by Putter’s look after watching him playing in an LA jazz club. Out of the blue he was called to audition and told he wouldn’t be needing his bass. He auditioned, and the offer was made!  History was made!

Admission is $15. Tickets are available for purchase online at our Eventbrite page between now until January 12, 5PM PST, or purchase tickets at the door via cash or card on the date of the performance. Light refreshments will be available. You are welcome to bring a beverage or snack of your own to enjoy. We look forward to seeing you at the show!
